LAKE BAIKAL

Tuesday 3rd June – Tuesday 17th June 2008

At home with the Siberian Vagrants!

One of the largest lakes in the world, Lake Baikal is located due north of Mongolia, in the far east of Russia. It is in a prime location to attract numerous migrants and a mouth-watering selection of breeding birds that most British birders can only dream about.

Our 2-centre visit allows us to explore the various habitats around the lake, from the Siberian boreal forest or Taiga, to the mountains and marshes that surround this vast expanse of water. This tour is for anyone who has chased birds on the Scillies or Fair Isle, or indeed dreamt about the Siberian species that turn up in Britain as vagrants during autumn migration. If you fancy Asiatic Dowitcher, White-throated Needletail, Lanceolated, Pallas’s Grasshopper or Thick-billed Warblers, Eye-browed or Red-throated Thrushes, Mugimaki or Dark-sided Flycatchers, Chestnut and Yellow-browed Buntings, or Pallas’s Rosefinch then this is the tour for you.
