Hummingbirds & Tanagers

This small South American country is simply overflowing with birds. It is particularly famous as the hummingbird capital of the world and it is this glittering jewel of a family that we will be concentrating on.

Once again our local guides will ensure that this tour is a “cut above the rest” and we could see up to 62 species of dazzling hummingbirds most of which will be just a few inches away on feeders and flowers within the grounds of our comfortable lodges. In competition with the hummers we will also search out some of the 70 species of gaudy, exotic and very, very bright tanagers. In all we hope to see at least fifty species from each of these two enigmatic families, and it will be a close call to see which group wins first place in numbers. There will also be an assortment of other very sought after birds including rare and skulking species. Amongst the cool misty mountain forests we should see toucans, quetzals, parrots, tapaculos and antpittas, as well as the amazing and never to be forgotten Andean-Cock-of-the Rock!
